- Don't reveal your holiday plans on social networking sites. Criminals may target these sites for their next victims.
- In foreign countries do not display and flaunt too much jewellery.
- Always be aware of your surroundings and the people.
- Check that window and door locks work and are secure in hotel rooms.
- Never reveal that you are travelling alone.
- A small pack of wet-wipes are always handy to carry around.
- If you are out alone at night try and walk attached to a group of people so that you do not appear alone to anyone watching.
- When abroad wear a money belt so that important documents are safe and cannot be seen.
- Make sure that someone always knows where you are and when you are expected.
- Photocopy important documents and keep them separate from the originals.
- If attending meetings and conferences do not leave the venue still wearing your name tag.
- If it's late at night and you have any concerns then ask security to walk with you to your room.
- Always try and arrive in unfamiliar places during day light.
- Zips can be fiddly things - why not attach a key ring - makes life easier.
- Don't forget to keep your windows and doors locked when staying overnight in a hotel.
- Don't forget to display the 'DO NOT DISTURB' notice on your hotel room door to discourage anyone from entering your room.
- Instead of folding your clothes up to stop them creasing - roll them up!! They will also take up less space.
- Make sure that the receptionist does not mention your room number out loud in front of other people in the reception area.
- Always look and act confident, even if you don't feel it.
- If abroad always be aware of local customs and dress codes.
- Make sure that sliding balcony doors are locked during the night in your room.
- During dark evenings keep your room curtains closed.
- Never leave your drink unattended - beware of it being spiked.
- Don't forget to keep your car doors locked at all times, especially at traffic lights.
